Baharestan

Gas Station

2021, Yazd, Iran

This gas station is a part of an approximately 110,000 m² (1,184,000 ft²) project consisting of a residential complex, a recreational facility, a gas station and car park. The project is located outside of the city of Yazd in Iran.

Highlights

  • Gas stations, vital for urban and intercity efficiency, often suffer from uninspired design. Overlooking their impact on the environment and user experience, these large-scale projects can be transformed to enhance aesthetics and create a more enjoyable atmosphere for all.
  • To conceptualize Baharestan gas station project, nature, inspired by the name (Baharestan meaning the place for spring and rebirth), served as a guiding theme. Taking cues from the flight of birds deeply rooted in Iran’s cultural heritage, particularly evident in traditional architecture like “Kabturakhane” (or loosely translated to pigeon house) buildings, the design process was shaped around this motif.
  • Yazd province, home to significant historical pigeon houses, reflects s rich avian diversity. With 231 bird species recorded, the symbolic significance of birds’ flight as a representation of progress and ascension is emphasized in art and literature. The aspiration is that the entire complex contributes to the advancement of the neighboring cities and plays a modest role in the development of Yazd province.
